U.S. Quail Shooting Dog Futurity
The U.S. Quail Shooting Dog Futurity has been established primarily as a breeder's stake for the purpose of promoting the development of the ideal "Class" shooting dog. The stake is designed to provide a "Showcase" for the evaluation and recognition of outstanding shooting dog prospects of derby age which have the potential to go on to win shooting dog championship stakes such as the National Open Shooting Dog Championship.
Desirable Qualities
- Demonstrate an intense desire to find birds for his handler, a nose keen to detect the presence of game, and the ability to locate it quickly and accurately by body scent.
- Exhibit courage and willingness to face unflinchingly heavy or punishing cover, severe weather conditions, poor footing, or other adverse conditions.
- Show desire to please handler by prompt response to commands and voluntarily run a forward pattern.
- Exhibit intelligence and boldness in selecting his objectives, hunt completely independent of his bracemate.
- Demonstrate speed, lofty style, attractive gait, and pleasing appearance both in action and on point.
- Handle game with intelligence, intnesity on point, and resonable steadiness to wing and shot.
- Display proper range and pace considering the terrain, cover, and ground conditions.
- In general, demonstrate those natural inherent qualities which combined with expert training will provide the maximum amount of pleasure in the hunting field.
Minimum Requirements
No dog shall be placed in the U.S. Quail Shooting Dog Futurity unless he complies with the following minimum standards:
- His ground heat shall be satisfactory to demonstrate a strong desire to find birds with a minimum of handling.
- He shall point a recognized upland game bird with resonable intensity and be shot over with steadiness to wing and shot is not required.
- He shall finish his heat in a manner satisfactory to demonstrate physical stamina considering the terrain, weather, and other conditions.
